Fiber artist, Laura Weber, began her art journey by creating traditional and functional baskets.  While the controlled, repetitive and practical nature of the craft suits her, a different side of her is revealed in the contemporary and sculptural forms she creates, often from found and upcycled objects and materials.

Laura draws inspiration from patterns she views in nature, particularly those found in a vineyard's constructed landscape.  The uniformity of the rows and trellises, combined with the gnarly tops of the vines, help to create the balance between the conventional and the unrestricted creativity that she seeks.  Walks on the shores of lakes and waterways near her home in Southeast Wisconsin also serve as inspiration, where she especially enjoys discovering sticks, rocks, and curiosities washed ashore in tangled chaos.
