Richard Jones describes glass blowing as comparable to the art of dance, for its physical nature and demanding timing. The play of elements must come together perfectly for the work to succeed. A 1988 graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, Richard's hand blown glass is grounded in strong design, skilled craftsmanship, bold use of color and innovative form.
Using traditional tools that have changed little in 2000 years, he and an assistant personally hand blow each piece in Paran Studio located in Madison, Wisconsin. Finishing details of the densely colored glass pieces include embellishments such as colored trails, silver leaf, and glass tiles. In his explorations of the functional form, Richard imbues each piece with a grace and elegance born of the attention given hand crafted work. With influences from East Asian decorative arts to Midwestern backyard gardens, he strives to bring relevant work to the contemporary art world.
