Andrew Coulter spends much of his time on Washington Island (off the northern tip of Door County) capturing images in nature either close up or grand in scale. He is an avid art lover and collector who has turned his artistic vision towards photography. As a photographer, he is obsessed with the passage of light as well as the strong shadows that are created. He tries to capture the endlessly shifting colors of moments and being in Door County means having water to reflect it all.
What is unique about Coulter's images is that they are mounted under 1" acrylic, which lends a three dimensional effect that is quite absorbing. When viewed this way you have the sense of peering at the scene as if you yourself are standing there. The polished edges of the acrylic reflect the edges of the image, creating new patterns and greater depth.
